Parental Access Issues Using a Child's account It is important that parents and carers are involved in their child’s work. Schools are encouraged to tell parents to work with their child through the child’s login when wanting to access school material from home. Parental Accounts The Digitalbrain learning platform is not allowed to provide parents with individual accounts within the portal. These are for members of school staff (including Governors) and pupils only. The new London MLE from Fronter does feature specific parental accounts for commenting on forums and viewing children's progress. Multiple guest accounts Whilst making generic accounts is now possible in Digitalbrain and might appear a good solution for guests, it does not provide parents any extra functionality that would be better achieved through setting school access rights appropriately. Access rights Through using the access rights of the portal, schools can open up any part of their school sites to the public, without having to give out generic usernames and passwords and at the same time protect children and students from unwelcome and unnecessary intrusion. Access Rights Guide Anonymity Generic guest accounts could also present a potential problem with anonymous contributions to open forums or chat rooms and their use should be carefully considered. It some instances this may be wholly appropriate (an internal submission to a confidential agony aunt for example) but care should be taken to change the password on a regular basis, or after a special event has finished. |
