The LGfL Network is already in place, with 21 aggregation points across the region, ready to connect further sites through low cost local fibre connections.
New sites are added to the network, via new fibre using new ducting, at the rate of six per day.
The main network topology consists of three central London core locations, resiliently linked at 19.2Gbps dark fibre, each accommodating 320Gbps of switch fabric.
The core sites include Park Royal, Earls Court and London Telehouse. Cache, filtering, hosting, video conferencing and other services are housed at core locations. From the core sites, nodal loops extend out into the suburbs linking aggregation points (or PoPs), from which local sites are linked. The supplier contract provides for a maximum contention ratio within the nodal loops of 1:3.65. | |
The core network has been tested, accepted and fully operational since 1st July 2002 and is currently serving 99.95% of London?s 1.2million school population.
