Here are the top 10 FAQs the support team currently receive and their answers
- I can't log in! What's happened?
The log in procedure with LGfL has changed recently in line with becoming a true national network. (See the help sheet.)
- My pictures are too big for the learning module page - how do I resize them?
Preferably not in the Java editor. Most modern cameras take huge pictures by default. They should be reduced in size before you try to insert them into a learning module page. (See our advanced section guide.)
- Our school account name is full of hyphens and makes our email far too long. Can we change it?
Yes, you can have the account deleted and recreated with a more succinct name. This will affect your webpage URLs and logins as well. Contact your LEA support in the first instance for this. If you are only concerned about your email name it is possible to map any domain you may own onto the existing account. (see email mapping)
- How can I set up all our courses and departments automatically?
You can export details from your school timetabling software and MIS and submit them to digitalbrain to create them in bulk. (see coursebuilder guide)
- Why can't people find my portal using Google?
Google searches the net by looking at the title and alt tags on a page. Both are possible to set on the learning platform. (See our google guide)
- How do I get my USO?
You apply to your LEA support contact which is usually your LEA ICT advisor. However, LGfL is working hard to amalgamate the two logins so that an LGfL login will be able to be used for all instances that a USO login is required.
- How do I use email with my classes of pupils?
The key to this is in setting up courses that are populated with groups of pupils according to class. When you browse from the TO: box in the webmail you will see a shortcut to all your course groups. (courses guide)
- How do I delete an account?
Only digitalbrain can delete accounts for safety reasons. Exploare your accounts via the account administration tool and flag the accounts you want removed as "condemned". Then contact the helpline at digitalbrain and they will delete the accounts for you while you wait. (Note you can delete accounts that have not yet been activated)
- How do I set my access rights?
If you are having trouble setting access rights remember you can only apply rights to folders, not to the files themselves. The quickest way to make a folder private is to set the "readers" rights to "no-one". (Access rights guide)
- How do I get my calendar to share dates with others?
Users' personal calendars can only inherit dates from other calendars if the user wishes it. Therefore when pupils first login and are given their account it is often useful to get them to a.) change their password and b.) share their calendar with all courses and communities that they are a member of. Homework set in course calendars will then filter through to each pupils calendar and homepage. (Calendar sharing guide)
